Stephan Grau

Co-Founder & - Owner

Stephan Grau’s professional career started off in the metalworking industry. In his spare time, he gradually developed a passion for computers and eventually turned this hobby into a new career. After completing his training as a data processing specialist, Stephan Grau worked as a software developer, specializing in applications for the financial sector, more specifically tools for private banks and investment firms. After three years as a developer, he changed to the field of document management, where he was active as a system developer for seven years. While working in this area, Stephan Grau took up the study of business administration at the VWA Koblenz. In 1999, Stephan Grau became self-employed and teamed up with Reiner Kraus to develop an interface for integrating document management systems with SAP. This laid the foundation for today’s KGS Software GmbH & Co. KG, which was founded in September 2000. Ever since, Stephan Grau has been shaping and directing the activities of the growing company with his business partner Reiner Kraus. At present, daily operations are largely handled by the hired executive managers. Stephan Grau provides consulting to the KGS executive management and mainly focuses on the strategic and international alignment of the company, together with Reiner Kraus, with the aim of fostering successful growth on the international stage.

Reiner Kraus

Co-Founder & - Owner

After graduating from university in the field of IT, Reiner Kraus started his occupational career as a software developer at a small software company based near the German town of Euskirchen. He then held various leadership positions, including project manager, department head, division manager and even managing director at different software companies, most of which focus on archive and document management. In 1999, Mr. Kraus then turned to self-employment before partnering with Stephan Grau and founding what later became KGS Software GmbH and Co. KG, a company specialized in document management systems for SAP environments. For about 13 years, Mr. Kraus and Grau ran the company, sometimes together and at other times alone, before they successfully implemented a growth strategy in 2013 that still delivers impressive annual growth figures. Since this time, Mr. Kraus gradually transferred operative management of the company to the employed managing directors and now acts as an advisor to the KGS executive management. In this capacity, Mr. Kraus, together with Mr. Grau, mainly focuses on the strategic and international alignment of the company with the aim of fostering successful growth on the international stage.

Winfried Althaus

Managing Director

Winfried Althaus, who was appointed managing director of KGS Software in 2013, is primarily in charge of sales and marketing. Mr. Althaus, a certified engineer based in Frankfurt/Main, was previously employed at FIS GmbH. There, he had been instrumental in building the business area of cross-industry products and services for SAP document processes since 2005. Past positions include procurement and sales & marketing director of the Smart Products business unit as well as the Rhine-Main branch office. Prior to that, he was sales director at OCR Systemhaus GmbH and at Autodigit Software AG. Winfried Althaus is a sales expert with over 25 years of experience in marketing integrated workflows and document management solutions. His experience further extends to building new business structures in Germany and internationally. The appointment of Winfried Althaus delivered a strong growth impulse and brought a new level of professionalism to the sales/marketing activities of KGS. The number of new customers and corporate turnover have tripled since 2013, while the company’s financial strength has remained stable.

Hermann Hülsmeier

Managing Director

After successfully completing his IT studies at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Hermann Hülsmeier launched his professional career as an IT project manager at the German-American company Linotype AG based in Eschborn and New York. Further positions included executive scientist at SUPRENUM AG in Bonn, head of client software development at SER Systeme AG in Neustadt and project manager for introducing a globally networked SAP system at LyondellBasell Industries. The experience gained along this career path led to the decision of offering his know-how to companies as a freelance consultant for SAP and document management. This marked the beginning of a dedicated and challenging consulting activity that lasted more than ten years and would have likely continued to the present day, had he not met the owners of KGS Software GmbH & Co. KG. As a result of this contact, Hermann Hülsmeier assumed the position of senior consultant at KGS in 2010. He was then promoted to the position of managing director in charge of the Professional Services unit in January 2015.

Bernhard Morell

Managing Director

At the beginning of his professional career, Bernhard Morell developed and maintained a CAD system before changing to a major provider of document management systems in the early 90s. There, he held various development and consulting positions. His main tasks included managing large national and international projects as well as directing different development departments of the group. In 2002, Mr. Morell joined CSC Ploenske as a lead consultant for document and knowledge management, before changing to fme AG, where he managed projects of strategic importance to the company. In 2007, he came to KGS Software GmbH & Co. KG to lead the Professional Services unit for all regions. He was appointed managing director in 2015. At present, Mr. Morell is in charge of the entire software development effort of KGS GmbH & Co. KG. He spent the last 24 years building substantial know-how in the area of document archiving. At KGS GmbH & Co. KG alone, he has been active in the field of SAP document and data archiving for close to 11 years. Under his leadership, KGS has been developing a lean SAP document archiving architecture that integrates with the SAP lead system.
