Coats switches to kgs archive and goes to the cloud

Motivation to change archive system / kg's solution for Coats / Migration process / Bye On-Premises - Hello Cloud

Initial Situation

Changing licensing models, complicated updates and the requirement to provide additional database servers for the archive caused the users, and in particular the IT department, to grow more and more dissatisfied.

Solution

Traditional archive systems generally require a dedicated database server. This generates additional administrative costs, which we can avoid with kgs Content Server, because this tool directly accesses the SAP tables.

Result

A lean archive server for SAP documents that supports the SAP standard viewer and, most importantly, does not require a dedicated database.

“Traditional archiving systems generally require their own database server. This results in additional administrative work, which is saved with the kgs Content Server, as it stores all information required for document access directly in directory and file objects of the operating system.”

About the Customer

Coats
Coats is a globally leading manufacturer of sewing threads and zippers. The history of J&P Coats traces back to the Scottish town of Paisley in the early 19th century. There the Clark brothers founded a plant for manufacturing sewing yarns in 1812. In the late 18th century, Carl Mez founded the Mez silk ribbon weaving mill for traditional Markgräftler Trachten in Kandern, near the German city of Lörrach. In 1936, Erich Heilmann started the zipper production.
