The Green Mission
Quick solutions, green impact
The goal of kgs has always been to provide customers with solutions that are as fast and effective as possible. The focus is on the flawless function of the modules, but “green” factors have been considered for years.
The technical performance of the software is invariably linked to a positive contribution to a sustainable IT landscape: the lean, efficient archiving software not only saves costs but also valuable resources. That is why there will also be a green light for green IT at kgs in the future!

Green IT - a disambiguation
According to Wikipedia (o.D.), green IT describes efforts to use information and communication technology (ICT) in an environmentally and resource-friendly manner in order to make it usable throughout its entire life cycle. These include both direct emissions (generated by activities) and indirect (production of electricity, materials, etc.). In technical terms, the term covers topics such as energy and material consumption, pollutants, durability of hardware and programming of software. Simply put, the aim is to optimize the following processes in terms of climate-friendly consumption: production, use and disposal.
Green IT also means the contribution that can be made to environmental protection through the use of IT. This makes it possible to reduce the energy consumption of a conventional source, e.g. in traffic or heating systems. A specific example: replacing business trips with video conferences saves energy.

Data Centers in Focus
Data centers in global comparison
Data centers connect globally, nationally and locally — they drive data traffic and make locations such as Frankfurt, Germany and China key regions.

international
The largest data center in the world offers space for up to 1.2 million servers and is operated by China Telecom on an area of 100 hectares in the Inner Mongolia Information Park (Naturefund, o.D.)

national
The Federal Republic is home to around 3,000 data centers and around 47,000 smaller IT installations. These account for 3% (16 billion kWh) of total German electricity consumption (Bitkom, 2022)

Lokal
Frankfurt is home to the world's largest Internet exchange and is a central location for German data centers. The fifth largest data center in the world is located here on 65,000 m² (Petereit, 2022)

1.2 million servers

Green Goals
Contributions from kgs and tia® for a “green” IT landscape

KGS is green
As a company, kgs is committed to green goals: We plant trees, give away sustainable products and support the “Planting Fruit Trees” project by Lemonaid & ChariTea e.V. Our teams mainly work from home — good for flexibility and ecological balance. For us, business is about more than just your own advantage.

tia® is green
tia® aims at autonomous archiving. It recognizes patterns itself and thus offers “predictive archiving services.” The system learns and differentiates: A legally relevant document is “stored” differently than an everyday note.
