Even today in the digital age, many people think of mountains of file folders stored on gigantic shelves when they hear the word “archiving.”
But archiving today is so much more than that — and with the right solution, it can be intelligent, simple and fast.
“archivum” in Latin and “archeion” in ancient Greek — that was the name for filing cabinets and office buildings in which important documents and certificates were kept. Nowadays, archiving usually only takes place in electronic form. Electronic or digital archiving means the permanent, unalterable storage of data and documents in electronic form. Adjectives such as “long-term” or “systematic” are also associated with archiving.
The aim is to use data and documents only occasionally or not at all and still keep them safe and handy. This is because many documents do not lose their significance, but have an important reference character, making them essential for the company. Some audit-proof and legal aspects as well as internal company guidelines must be taken into account when archiving.
